Description

Regular monitoring of phytoplankton abundance and community composition collected with a monthly frequency at several discrete depths in the Gulf of Trieste, from 7/1998 to 12/2001.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 34,906 records.

1 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Project Data

No Description available

Title INTERREG 2 Project
Funding INTERREG 2 Project founded by Friuli Venezia Giulia Region - Environment Dir. and European Commission
Study Area Description The monitoring stations are located in the Gulf of Trieste in the northernmost part of the Adriatic Sea.
Design Description Regular monitoring

The personnel involved in the project:

Marina Cabrini

Sampling Methods

Discrete water samples at 3 to 5 depth layers.

Study Extent Monthly sampling from 1998 to 2001

Method step description:

  1. Samples were fixed with Ca(HCO3)2-buffered formaldehyde (0.8% final concentration) and cell abundance and species composition of phytoplankton were estimated according to Utermöhl’s method (1958), using an inverted microscope equipped with phase contrast, at 200-320-400x final magnifications.
