UN Ocean Decade: SciNMeet action launched

15 July 2022

The Science We Need for the Mediterranean Sea We Want (SciNMeet) Programme has officially started with the hybrid kick off meeting held on 12-13 July, 2022, in Rome (Italy) and on web platforms. Alessandra Giorgetti and Marina Lipizer of the OGS National Oceanographic Data Centre presented two key initiatives in which the Centre is involved: the EMODnet data infrastructure and the SHAREMED project. These are essential starting points for SciNMeet task teams focused on data sharing and pollution risk mitigation.
SciNMeet will contribute to facing the UN Ocean Decade challenges, addressing major Mediterranean needs and gaps in scientific knowledge to better manage climate change, pollution, overexploitation of resources, and hazards on the marine environment, all expressed in the related white paper.
The program lasts until 30 September 2030; currently the task teams are required to plan activities to achieve the objectives defined for the first three years of operation.
