Open Science: SeaDataCloud among the EU Stars

7 December 2021

The ninth edition of Les Etoiles de l'Europe (Stars of Europe trophy) ceremony was held on Thursday 2 December 2021 in France as part of the Horizon Europe Forum. The trophy, established by the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, aims to promote research and innovation activities carried out in connection with Horizon Europe, the main EU funding programme for research and innovation.

Along with GENIALG and NOAW, the prize for Open Science went to the project EU Horizon 2020 SeaDataCloud , whose Italian node is coordinated by the OGS Data Centre.

Through cloud technology and high performance computing systems, SeaDataCloud allowed, from 2016 to 2020, to implement SeaDataNet , the pan-European infrastructure to facilitate access to marine data measured by the countries surrounding the European seas. SeaDataCloud integrates the scientific results of 113 data centres, making available online to the scientific community 2,7 million oceanographic data.
