NODC at the European Researchers’ Night 2022

3 October 2022

On 30 September, 2022, in Trieste, the NODC team contributed to SHARPER, which is one of the Italian projects supported by the European Commission for the realisation of the European Researchers' Night in 2022 and 2023.

SHARPER means SHAring Researchers' Passion for Enhanced Roadmaps and aims to involve all citizens in discovering the profession of researcher and the role that researchers play in building the future of society.

The 2022 edition of the SHARPER Marathon took place in 14 Italian cities from the morning of September 30th to 1:00 pm on October 1st: 28 non-stop hours of meetings, improvisations, concerts, debates and virtual visits.

There was a great turnout at the Quiz on the Goal 14 "Life below water" of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development facilitated by NODC at the Immaginario Scientifico Science Centre.

The quiz was developed and reviewed by a global group of experts from the non-profit association SULITEST (Sustainable Literacy TEST), the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), Mercator Ocean International, EMODnet (European Marine Observation and Data Network) and many other UN and international scientific and non-governmental organisations involved in conservation of nature, sustainable development as well as sea and ocean research.

OGS, in particular the National Oceanographic Data Centre, enthusiastically joined the expert group as scientific coordinator of the EMODnet Chemistry initiative.
