NODC at The Ocean Race Finale

On 27-30 June 2023, NODC was at the Ocean Data Week, an event held during The Ocean Race Finale in Genoa, Italy. NODC, as scientific coordinator of EMODnet Chemistry - the data infrastructure specialised in marine water quality of the European Marine Observation and Data network (EMODnet) - explained how this is contributing to the management of marine litter data obtained through Citizen Science activities such as those of the Race.

EMODnet Physics Coordinating organisation, ETT, was a co-organizer of the event. This brought together experts from EMODnet Secretariat, Physics, Chemistry and Data Ingestion as well as wider stakeholders from the European Commission DG MARE, RTD, IOC-UNESCO, research, civil society and the private sector. The discussion focused on topics such as European ocean observation, the marine knowledge value chain, the role of marine data in EU policies, and climate change and smart sustainable cities. EMODnet showcased the importance of diverse data sources highlighting the partnership with The Ocean Race.
