Go-ahead for the Horizon Europe project Blue-Cloud 2026

24 February 2023

From 13 to 15 February, NODC was in Pisa, Italy, for the kick-off meeting of the project Blue-Cloud 2026. The infrastructure is part of the solid, multidisciplinary, committed team of 40 partners across 13 EU countries involved in this project funded by the Horizon Europe programme. Over the course of 42 months starting in January 2023 Blue-Cloud 2026 intends to turn the pilot ecosystem Blue-Cloud project into a Federated European Ecosystem to deliver FAIR & Open data and analytical services, instrumental for deepening research of oceans, EU seas, coastal & inland waters.

As of 2019, the Blue Cloud framework hosts one of the most mature communities in the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). The consortium will develop, test, validate and document new analytical Blue Cloud Big Data WorkBenches. They will produce harmonised and validated data collections of Essential Ocean Variables (EOVs) in physics (temperature and salinity), chemistry (nutrients, chlorophyll, oxygen) and biology (plankton taxonomy, functions and biomass). Such EOV collections are highly relevant for analysing the state of the environment.
