Environmental monitoring in the port of Trieste after the mooring of the Ro-Ro vessel Und Adriyatik, as requested by the Harbour Master. Water and sediment samples were collected before and after arrival to assess possible impacts on the marine ecosystem. Chemical analyses, plankton abundance and taxonomic composition, biological toxicity tests, and microbiological studies were performed to detect pollutants and ecological changes.

Census of Marine Malacofauna of the Italian Coasts - Version 1.3

The census of the Italian marine malacofauna took shape in 1982 by a group of researchers: Daniele Bedulli, Bruno Dell'Angelo, Piero Piani and Gianni Spada with a publication in the Bollettino di Malacologia (Bedulli D., Dell'Angelo B., Piani P., Spada G. 1982. Project for the census of the Italian marine malacofauna. Bollettino Malacologico, 18, 85-94). Subsequently, Filippo Bassignani, Vincenzo Iacono and Bruno Sabelli collaborated on the project, as well as 93 collectors.

The Census of the Italian Marine Malacofauna was a research project by the S.I.M. (Italian Society of Malacology) coordinated by Prof. D. Bedulli of the Department of Evolutionary and Functional Biology of the University of Parma. The project was conceived to increase and organize knowledge on the distribution of marine molluscs of the Italian coasts. This research was necessary because knowledge on the biogeography of the Mediterranean was quantitatively scarce and highlighted a lack of biogeographic data. The aim of the research was to create a database of marine molluscs present on the Italian coasts and their density. Each piece of data (presence and density of a species) is completed by some environmental parameters (e.g. depth, environment, type of substrate, etc.). The main objective of this census was to study the qualitative composition of the coastal malacocenoses of the Italian peninsula and to determine the biogeographic distribution patterns of the different mollusc species, to identify the Lessepsian migrations and the anthropochoric introductions. The data were obtained through a coordinated system of collectors, as well as using the results of various campaigns conducted by research institutions such as: Universities, ENEA, etc. The data collected were checked by SIM "trustees" especially with regard to the systematics.

These data come from the old ENEA database, managed by the S. Teresa Centre of ENEA, which collected the data of The Census of the Italian Marine Malacofauna.

Time series of phytoplankton abundance collected with a monthly frequency at 0.5, 5, 10 and 15 meters in the Gulf of Trieste. The time series station C1, located in the Gulf of Trieste in the northernmost part of the Adriatic Sea, is part of the Adriatic Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) site. It is a shallow coastal station (17 m depth) located at 0.2 Km from the coast, at the outer border of the Natural Marine Reserve of Miramare, Trieste. Samples were fixed with Ca(HCO3)2-buffered formaldehyde (0.8% final concentration) and cell abundance was estimated according to Utermöhl's method (1958), using an inverted microscope equipped with phase contrast, at 200-320-400x final magnifications. Abundant cells were counted in defined random fields, rarer species were counted on the whole chamber (Fonda Umani et al., 2007).

Collection of soft-bottom macrozoobenthos invertebrates at a coastal site in the buffer zone of a marine protected area in the Gulf of Trieste. The collection is a time series from July 2014 to January 2018. The sediments were collected with a van Veen grab (0.1m2; 18L) and the species were identified and counted by using a stereomicroscope. This study, which was carried out by the OCE-OGS group, provides information on species fluctuations and changes over the seasons and years.

The dataset reports the relative abundance of potentially pathogenic bacteria in treated wastewater and coastal water samples collected in the proximity of discharge points at sea. The data derive from Next Generation Sequencing of amplicons of the V4-V5 region of 16S rRNA gene. Only genera belonging to traditional and alternative (Newton et al 2013, Microbial Ecology 65, 1011-1023) fecal indicator bacteria are reported.
