Description

Seasonal monitoring of microphytoplankton abundance and community composition carried out in the site of Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) station "C1", in the Gulf of Trieste, North Adriatic Sea.

Data Records

The data in this sampling event resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 28 records.

2 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Sampling Methods

KC Haps bottom corer, 13 cm internal diameter. The sampled layer consists of the upper 5 mm of the sediment which has been homogenized.

Study Extent Seasonal sampling in the LTER station C1 in the Gulf of Trieste, North Adriatic Sea.

Method step description:

  1. Method step description: Samples were fixed with Ca(HCO3)2-buffered formaldehyde (0.8% final concentration) and cell abundance and species composition of microphytobenthos were estimated according to Utermöhl’s method (1958), using an inverted microscope equipped with phase contrast, at 200-320-400x final magnifications. Data are expressed as cell per cm3 sediment.
