Summary: Part of the data was collected within the framework of the project 'Dinamica dei litorali', supported by CNR - Sea waves parameters are collected within the framework of the sea climate monitoring program, in order to characterise the coastal sites of interest to ENEL's power plants. Data are used both for the planning of the structures and for evaluating the littoral dynamics. Data are recorded for ten/twenty minutes every three hours, instantaneous sea water elevation being recorded every 0.5 seconds. Before 1984 sea elevations were recorded on chart rolls and only the most relevant parameters were calculated based on the characteristics of the record. After 1984 data are recorded on magnetic cassettes and all the calculations have been completely automatized. Prior to considering data as part of the data base they are submitted to a pre-processing procedure and the preliminary data products are evaluated by the group of experts charged with final data validation and reporting.
