Descriptions:
Oceanographic cruise Seistec_13 was conducted by the CNR-ISMAR, Napoli, in cooperation with Geomega Ltd, Budapest and the Eötvös University of Budapest. This project was performed with the purpose of acquiring high-resolution seismic images of the latest Pleistocene–Holocene stratigraphic architecture of the submerged sectors of the Campi Flegrei volcanic district, one of the world’s highest-risk volcanic areas. The analysis of high-resolution seismic profiles has allowed quantifying the last ∼20 ka BP displacements in the offshore part of the Campi Flegrei caldera. The seismic images were used to detect the stacking pattern of Prograding Wedges (PWs) and Aggrading Fills (AF) to reconstruct relative sea-level changes and estimate the amount of vertical deformation in the Pozzuoli Bay.Seistec profiles acquired in the Pozzuoli Bay provide high-resolution images of the shallow structure of the collapse caldera-ring fault zone and the resurgent dome system associated with the eruption of the Neapolitan Yellow Tuff (NYT) (ca 15 ka). The seismic interpretation allowed reconstructing the timing and the paths of deformation of the NYT resurgent structure throughout the latest Quaternary and the recognition of hydrothermal fluids and volcanic/subvolcanic intrusions ascending along the ring fault zone. Ship: M/B Idrosfera (Research Catamaran) Ports: Pozzuoli
