Descriptions:
The main objective of the CRELEV-2016 cruise is to examine a comprehensive set of variables in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea in order to quantify variability and trends of physical and biogeochemical properties. These data will be used to better understand the role of natural and anthropogenic pressures. This cruise is a component of the plan for an observing system in the Mediterranean Sea as outlined by MED-SHIP. We leave from Piraeus on 02/06/2016 at 10:00 UTC. Direction to st. S1. Good weather and sea conditions. During navigation, the scientific crew prepared the laboratories and checked equipments and intrumentations. In the area close to station S14, on 05/06/2016 early in the morning, we met and successfully recovered the glider from OC-UCY (Cyprus). Then, at S14 we resumed our work. In the area close to station S18, on 06/03/2016 at 09:15, we successfully deployed one Apex float. In the area close to station S23, on 08/06/2016 at 05:45, we successfully deployed one Argo Deep float. This is the first deep float ever deployed in the Mediterranean. After station S22, we proceeded slower due to the increase of the wave height. After station S25, we decided to stop the work untill 09/06/2016 at 03:00. Then, we continued our work regularly. We arrived at Piraeus Port and concluded CRELEV-2016 Cruise on 10/06/2016 at 09:00.
