OGS and ANVUR discuss the third mission

12 December 2022

On 9 December, a meeting between OGS and ANVUR took place at the Urban Centre in Trieste on the theme of the third mission. By the third mission we mean the totality of activities - such as the scientific, technological and cultural transfer or the productive transformation of knowledge - aimed at the economic and social growth of the territory. These processes, which include interaction between universities, civil society and business, will lead to numerous benefits of a social, cultural and economic nature. During the event, the activities for the technologisation of knowledge production were discussed, as well as the Open Science programme that the OGS has been pursuing and improving for the past decade. The hybrid event was organised by the Polo Tecnologico Alto Adriatico and was open to the general public. The importance of Open Science and its close link with technology transfer was discussed from the perspective of the professionals directly involved: Paola Del Negro, Director General of the National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics (OGS), and Giorgio Girometta , representative of the National Agency for the Evaluation of the University System (ANVUR). Chiara Altobelli, Paolo Diviacco and Tommaso Scarpa from the OGS gave an overview of the national projects in which the Institute is involved and its efforts to follow the principles of Open Science.
