OGS and EMODnet Chemistry: a succesful story on marine litter data ingestion

28 December 2021

OGS with EMODnet Chemistry project is the 11th success story of EMODnet Ingestion, the portal that facilitates the submission of marine datasets and their further processing, publishing as open data, and contributing to applications for society.

The Chemistry success story celebrates the submission of marine litter data from 4 NGOs and 5 European monitoring and research centres through the EMODnet Ingestion portal. Once elaborated, the data are included in the database maintained by the National Oceanographic Data Centre (NODC) at the National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics (OGS, Italy). The data sets are made available through the EMODnet Chemistry web platform. Besides the monitoring data accepetd by the Marine Strategy Framework Directive, EMODnet Chemistry also manages, stores and gives access to marine litter data from both research surveys and monitoring or cleaning initiatives of citizen science.
