Three new databases for marine litter data management in Europe have been created by NODC as part of the EMODnet Chemistry project. In particular, a database was developed for data on macro litter along the coasts, the first and only on a European scale, another database was dedicated to data on floating marine microlitter having dimensions less than 5 mm and, finally, the third one to macro litter on the seabed. NODC developed these archives in close collaboration with the European Commission and in line with the principles of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive. NODC is therefore recognized as a reference point for the management of marine litter data at European level.
